Velma Mae Pierson (nee Dees), age 86, passed peacefully on November 15, 2024,
listening to “How Great Thou Art” being sung by her favorite artist, Elvis.
Velma was born in Holcomb, Missouri to Alvin and Vera Dees (nee Owens).
She is survived by her children Andrea (H. Keith) Parham (nee Younger) and Terrie Pierson; her grandchildren Jesse Parham and Christine Parham; her great-grandchildren, Henry and Noah (Christine)Tate; and her siblings, Nancy Dees, and Jack Dees.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her divorced husband Phillip J Pierson, as well as her siblings, Naomi S White (Dees) and Lura Bergmann (Dees) and her sister-in-law Carol Dees (Jack).
She retired from St Louis City Public Schools in June 2004 after a 20+ year career as a Food Service worker at Blow Middle School in South St Louis.
Memorial services are being planned for after the holidays.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (a favorite Elvis charity)
