Melvin Ray Hufford, aka CRICKET, a husband, father, son, brother, and a friend, passed away on August 27, 2026, at the age of 49 at the St. Louis University Hospital, following a stroke. Born on April 9, 1977, in Dunklin County, Cricket graced the world with his infectious laughter, huge heart, and generous spirit.
Cricket leaves behind his wife Megan and the lives of his children: Logan, Brett, Bryce, Corbin, Zaydenn, and his stepdaughter, Kaitlynn. His parents, Carol Ann Hufford and Melvin Earl Hufford. His siblings: Jack, Brandon, Cherri, Jonie, Victoria, and Vanessa.
Cricket was the kind of person who could lighten a room with his humor and warmth, always joking around to lift spirits. His laugh was contagious, a melody that will dearly be missed by all who had the privilege to know him. He had a huge heart that was always willing to help others when he could. His playful spirit and ability to make those around him laugh was a gift that he shared generously. A big kid at heart, Cricket delighted in playful teasing his children, and others filling their lives with laughter and joy. The love he had for his family and friends was unwavering and unconditional.
Cricket was able to give the gift of life as his ended because he was an organ donor, he was able to donate both his kidneys to two Tennessee men that were on dialysis. With his generous gift of life part of him will live on to help others live a better life.
Cricket’s bright spirit and bondless love have left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of laughter and love will continue to inspire and uplift those who carry his memory in their hearts. Until we meet again, Cricket!
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on October 17, 2026 at 2:00pm at the Bernie Park, located on Highway 25 in Bernie, Missouri. Family and friends are invited to gather together to remember and celebrate the precious life of Cricket.
