On Tuesday February 14th, 2023 Larry “Mac” L. McGrael, loving husband and
father passed away at the age of 79 years old.
Larry was born on June 30th, 1943 in Bonne Terre, Mo to Lester P. and Dorothy
L. (Sikes) McGrael who preceded him in death, along with his brother Kevin L.
McGrael. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Dottie J. (Siegenthaler) McGrael;
devoted father and father in law to Scott (Sandra) McGrael, Shelly (Pam)
McGrael, Keri (Brian) Door. Grandfather to Sarah McGrael. Brother, uncle, cousin
and friend.
Larry aka Mac, spent most of his career in the automotive industry as a Service
Manager for Chevrolet. He had a servants heart. He even helped an elderly
couple who had broken down on the highway coming from Wisconsin on their
way to Arizona while towing their camper. He went as far as getting their camper
towed to his home for 3 weeks while their vehicle was repaired.
He is described by many as a good man, social, patient, loving, kind spirited,
quick witted and even quicker to forgive. If he loved and cared for you—you
knew it. His heart was huge. He emanated a gentle strength that you knew you
could rely on him.
Larry had a love for cars. In his younger years he raced cars on dirt tracks in
Bismarck, Farmington and Valley Park. Once the racing came to an end he
moved his focus to horses and would share this love with his family. They would
travel to horse shows on the weekends and trail riding with family. He once
bought a brand new dually truck and horse trailer. He had the family names
hand painted on it. He was so proud of it and on the first trip to a horse show
going up a hill the entire side was torn off the truck!
His support for his children was incredible, he supported and attended any
activity or event they were involved in and was always their biggest fan! The
main lesson he taught them was good sportsmanship.
Larry enjoyed going to his property at Lake Wappapello on the weekends. This
was his happy place where he would be with his family and friends boating,
BBQ-ing and fishing. He was an avid fisherman and loved hitting his favorite
fishing spots at the flats for bass and the 9 o’clock hole for crappie. We HAD to
be there at 9:00 am sharp.
He also had an appreciation for Harley Davidson. He enjoyed going on rides and
being an active member of Bikers For Babies for seven years. He had a knack
for gardening. Upon moving to the Lake Saint Louis area he put in a large
garden that could feed a neighborhood. Larry had a love for music, as well.
From 1812 Overture to Yanni, from Pink Floyd and AC/DC to the Eagles and
Meatloaf. His music choices were diversified, to say the least. He was an animal
lover, especially dogs. They were his children too in his eyes! Spoiled rotten was
the only way he saw fit to treat his dogs.
On any given night, he could be found in his recliner watching tv, snacking on a
sweet treat and sending Facebook messages to all he loved before going to bed
each night. We will miss those messages.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests a donations be made in his honor
to 4 Paws 4 Rescue. 4 Paws 4 Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit rescue organization
close to his heart. This can be done on their website under the “DONATE”
button on the first page.
