Joyce Hoke Holmes, age 73, formerly of Vero Beach, Fl, passed away at St. Lukes Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo, Monday August 28, 2023.
Joyce was born July 3, 1950 in Greensburg, Pa the daughter of William and Dorothy (Kenney) Hoke. She was a graduate of St. Xavier Highschool, 1968 and ended her education with a degree in Fashion Merchandising from Mount Aloysius, Class of 1970.
After graduation she met and married the love of her life, Thomas Lee Holmes on July 10, 1976. The couple spent their married life traveling the states and having fun in all their adventures; the biggest adopting their twins, Nathan and Natalie. They celebrated 44 years of marriage.
Joyce had many talents but the one she will be remembered for the most is her beautiful art. She was never without a paint brush in her hand! A member of the Tole and Decorative Artists, Joyce was a part of many Chapters, taught at Meramec College of St. Louis, Mo, painted with Big Brush Artists and was a mentor to many. Her greatest joy and honor was when she was asked by the White House to have one of her painted ornaments on their Christmas Tree where she was invited by the President to come and
see in person.
Joyce loved board games, being with friends and mostly being a Mom. She could never sit still for long which resulted in volunteer work anywhere she could find it. Her nickname being, “Mama Holmes” from many kids she helped through the years.
Joyce’s view on her life: “I’ve had an amazing life! One many could only dream of. Who could ask for more?!”
Joyce was proceeded in death by her husband, Thomas Holmes and Parents William and Dorothy Hoke.
Survivors include her kids, Natalie H. Miller of O’Fallon, Mo and Nathan T. Holmes of Gray Court, SC. 3 Grandkids, Saylor Miller (1.5), Aubrey Holmes (14) and Blake Holmes (16) and her brother Frank Stoner of Greensburg, Pa.
