Joseph “Joe” Patrick Manion II, beloved husband of Carolyn Audrey Manion (Coon) for 36 years,
was called home to his eternal glory on January 13, 2021 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Joe was born on September 28, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri to parents Joseph Patrick Manion
and Marie Elizabeth Manion (Astroth) who both preceded him in death.
Joe attended Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy
during the Vietnam war, stationed in Guam. After serving his country, Joe founded Manion
Carpet where he specialized in floorcovering. He retired after many years of service to the St.
Louis area with thousands of satisfied clients.
Joe was an avid fisherman and lover of the outdoors. He was a skilled athlete; he excelled in
tennis, track and field, baseball, and soccer. Joe enjoyed traveling, always discovering the
culinary delicacies of the areas he visited. Joe knew no strangers and met new friends wherever
he went. Joe was a friend to all animals- many wild creatures would literally eat out of his hand.
He raised many treasured pets over his lifetime, and each was his favorite.
Joe requested Carolyn’s hand on Christmas Eve 1983 and they were married on June 1, 1984,
blending their families. Joe was the patriarch of the family and leaves behind his many
cherished children; Gina Laux (Mike), Jeffrey Manion, Kelly Khait (Paul), Julie Pfeifer (Jeff), Laura
Funke (Keith), Heather Amador (Ivan), Trey Miller (Marjorie), Brian Dillon, and Courtney Miller.
He leaves behind 22 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren who loved their “Papa” for his
storytelling prowess, his affectionate teasing, and his ever-present listening ear.
Joe was a doting brother and leaves behind his loving siblings Michael Manion (Pamela),
Pamela Hendel (Richard), Brian Manion (Paula), Karen Manion, Kathy Hayes, and John Manion.
His adored younger brother Robert Manion (Sherri) preceded him in death in January 2019.
Joe loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind. He felt at peace after his last rites and
sacraments, knowing he was soon to be welcomed to eternity and reunited with his parents
and brother.
