John F. Vandable

October 18, 1942 - May 2, 2020

John Francis Vandable, 77, was born on October 18, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri and fell asleep in the Lord on May 2, 2020.

John served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1960 – 1966. He attended Georgetown University in Washington D.C. where he studied Middle Eastern Languages. John was a member of The Bridge Church in Pacific Missouri and an passionate artist.

John traveled the world but his favorite place was home with his children. He was a proud father and wasn’t afraid to yell it from the top of the baseball bleachers. His children will forever cherish the memories of hearing him tell outlandish and spooky stories, giving butterfly kisses every night and teaching them how to fish, paint and bowl. Family movie nights were a staple as any night was a perfect night for an old western or Sister Act movie. “He taught me how to watch, fight and pray, fight and pray; and live rejoicing every, every day”. John was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Smith (Suarez) and his step-father Thomas W. Smith. He is survived by his wife, Carol Vandable (Hert). John was father/step-father to eight children: Michael, Jeffrey, Bryan, Eric, John Matthew, Kristen, Melissa and Niki. He was a beloved grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

A private memorial service will be held for the family on Friday, May 8, 2020 at The Bridge Church in Pacific, MO with a public Military Service to be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetary at a future date. Uncle John will be missed. He was a father to me and my brothers when ours left. I have learned many life lessons from uncle John and am a better man for kowing him and applying his teachings. John you are always In my memories. I thank you for all the time you spent with me and how well you took care of my mom ( your little sister). Carol I am so sorry for the loss of Uncle John.
