John Bradley “JB” Greenwell, aged 73, of O’Fallon, bid farewell to this world on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025.
Born December 23rd, 1951, in Lancaster, PA, John was the first of four spirited sons born to the late John Bennett and Mildred “Millie” (Wingender) Greenwell.
John met his wife, Kathryn “Kay” (Olson), their first date was at the infield of Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby in 1978. That date turned into a lifetime partnership on June 28th, 1980, in St. Louis, MO. Together, they built a life anchored in joy and family, welcoming two children, John Bennett II and Sarah Helena. His heart grew even bigger with the arrival of his granddaughter, Bennett Louise Dressler, whom he adored endlessly.
John’s heart was vast, embracing a large and loving family. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Kay, his cherished daughter and her husband, Sarah & Derek Dressler, and his precious granddaughter, Bennett. His brothers Neil and Mike, along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and cousins, will forever hold his memory dear. Sadly, John was preceded in passing by his son, John Bennett Greenwell II, his parents, John and Millie Greenwell, along with other family members and friends.
John was a Normandy High School graduate in 1970, he was not only a scholar but also a golfer. His academic journey continued at UMSL, after graduation, he ventured to Washington DC, where he contributed to the political scene. Returning to Missouri, John found his professional home at Archway Marine Lighting, where he excelled as an office manager. Retirement brought a new chapter as a stay-at-home dog dad to his beloved vizslas.
John was the ultimate sports dad; he coached baseball, golf, soccer, and softball, guiding not only his own children but also their teammates and friends. Even off the field, John was a true sports enthusiast, watching the Blues, Cardinals, golf, and horse racing. True to form, his final Derby Week text exchange with his daughter was full of betting advice and bourbon-filed commentary.
Those who knew John, knew a man of subtle depth and dry humor. He loved fast cars and slow pours of bourbon. Above all else, John’s heart belonged to his family and friends. He was a steadfast presence, always ready to support and celebrate those he loved.
Join us in honoring John on Friday, May 23rd, 2025, with visitation at 10:00 a.m., followed by mass at 11:00 a.m., at St. Ann’s Church in Normandy, MO. A celebratory lunch at John’s favorite restaurant will follow- stories, laughter, and toasts are encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to a cause that President Trump might disapprove of—trust us, John would be delighted.
May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
His legacy is one of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
