Jack Hale Jones, 87, died peacefully May 3, 2024 after a very long illness of Parkinsons Disease. He was born June 18, 1936, in East Alton, Illinois. He is predeceased by his parents Arthur G. Jones (Gib) and Lily Jane Jones. He is survived by his wife, Ilene Jones of St. Charles, MO; sisters Myrna Jill Roberts of East Alton, IL and Lacy Ellen Jones of Normal, IL; two step-children Dana (Brian) Graff and Doug Pelot of St. Charles, MO; grandchildren Eric and Sara Pelot; former wife, Rose Stengel and their children Lynn (Bryce) Miskell of Wichita, KS; David (Joseph Hernandez) Jones of San Diego, CA, Bradley Jones of Paola, KS; grandchildren Shannon and Carly Miskell.
Jack graduated from Ranken and went on to graduate from Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, now Missouri University S&T with a degree in physics. Jack became more interested in the technology while doing his physics studies and experienced the development of computers with a management career at McDonald Douglas (1964-1994) and then at IBM as a Certified Project Manager (1994-2000). He had a one year appointment to MIT visiting staff for work in computer-aided manufacturing early in his career. After his retirement in 2001, Jack authored a book, Impact With Intent, volunteered at a food bank, and wrote devotionals for the Church of the Living Lord, and enjoyed the pool in the backyard.
He was known as a kind and encouraging person and had many interests and hobbies: restoring a 1931 Ford Model A (“Bumpy”), family genealogy, photography, browsing through bookstores, music, and vacationing in Santa Rosa Beach in the Florida panhandle and staying at a big beach house with room for grandkids and family with plenty of time on the beach. He loved his family gatherings at the Jones’ Family Reunions. He followed in his Uncle Ralph Jones’ footsteps, learning machine shop at Ranken, but would be proud to tell you what he really learned from Uncle Ralph which are in his own words on the back cover of Jack’s book:
“The things that were handed down to me from my parents are
- The Golden Rule.
- The difference between right & wrong.
- The ability to act accordingly.
I am 85 years old.” Uncle Ralph
