Debora Jean Seemes (nee Utenage) or DJ as she was known to most, passed away unexpectedly on April 19, 2026. She was born on June 10, 1958, to Bill and Darlene Utenage. She was born, raised, and remained in St. Louis, MO. She was the oldest of three daughters. She married Wayne Seemes. Though the marriage did not last, the friendship did. They had two children, Nicole and Zachary. She also became an aunt, a title she held with pride. As her children got older, she became “the Mom.” The one that all turned to and looked up to. She took great pride in being a mother, whether to her own children, her niece and nephews, or one of her many “adopted” children.
To those that knew her, the statement that she was a force of nature is a hysterical understatement. She loved with all of her heart, she had an infectious laugh, if she had an opinion, then you definitely knew it. Whether she said it or her face did. She was a pug owner and pug lover. She loved being outside and being a weekend yard warrior. Her work ethic was impeccable. She built friendships wherever she went, because to know her was to love her. In her recent years, she began working with a group of people that most definitely became dear to her heart.
DJ is survived by her loving daughter, Nicole Olson (nee Seemes), her husband, Matthew Olson, loving niece Rochelle Merollis and husband Michael Merollis, their son, Jaxon Merollis. Her grandchildren Evelynn Olson, Tressa Scarborough, Salem Olson, Jacob Olson, Cayson Evola, Marci Olson and Zachary Olson and her great-grandson Emmett Olson. Along with nephews, Sarah’s and great-nephews. Being the Mom, Grandma, Aunt and Great Aunt was always what she lived for.
DJ was preceded in death by her beloved son, Zachary Seemes; her mother, Darlene Utenage; sister, Diane Hecht, and partner-in-crime Bernadette Corley, amongst grandparents, aunts, and uncles that went before her.
Services will be held on Friday, May 8th, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Florissant. The address is 751 N. Jefferson St., Florissant, MO 63031.
A reception will follow at her favorite restaurant, Maggiano’s, 2 The Blvd. Richmond Heights, MO 63117.
