On Friday March 12, 2021, Carl Martin Swensen, loving father and beloved grandpa, passed away at age 78.
Carl was born on December 22, 1942 in Chicago, IL to Ralph and Lillian Swensen. He joined the Marine Corp at age 17 and went on to become a Chicago police officer in the 1960’s. Following that, he moved to WI and bought a dairy farm where he raised cows and other livestock. Eventually ending up at Colonial Hospital Supply in St. Louis, MO, where he was a Regional Vice President before retiring.
Throughout his life, Carl loved working with his hands. Laying a hardwood floor, building a brick fireplace or completely finishing a basement, he was never far from his tools. He enjoyed many hobbies including Bass tournament fishing, gourmet cooking, shooting practice with his guns and building computers. He had a great love for his dogs, owning several various breeds through the years. He had an incredible talent for art, photography, drawing and gem cutting, making beautiful jewelry pieces.
Carl was a man that always held strong to his faith, patriotism, unwavering love and generosity for his family and friends. Those that knew him will remember him as someone who enjoyed laughing, giving, loving and living a beautiful, full life.
Carl will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. Carl is survived by his three children Michelle Martinelli and her fiance Mark Gnutek of Elgin, IL, Gunnar Swensen and his fiance Lori Smith of St. Ann, MO, and Amy Lutes and her husband Dan Lutes of St. Peters, MO; five grandchildren, one great grandchild, his brother, Arnold Swensen and his wife Sharon Swensen of Scottsdale, AZ and a niece and two nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, April 2nd at Jefferson National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO at 11am. Space is limited due to Covid restrictions. If interested in attending, please contact Amy Lutes at anlutes@yahoo.com.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations will be accepted at the Humane Society of Missouri in Carl Swensen’s name.
