Dalton Indiana “Indy” Robertson was born on March 21, 1997 in Houston, Missouri. He died at the age of 28 on September 21, 2025 in St. Louis, Missouri. Indy was born in Houston, Missouri, but his family moved to Springfield at the age of two. He attended Springfield Public Schools, from Kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating from Parkview High School in May of 2016.
Although his parents divorced when Indy was an infant, they both remarried which was a blessing to him as this gave him an even bigger family to love along with multiple sets of grandparents which he adored.
Indy had many hobbies as a young child. He began to show his enthusiasm for trains, collecting Thomas the Tank Engine sets until he was eight years old. At 9 was about the time he discovered Transformers or “Robots in Disguise”. He began his collection and this continued throughout adulthood. Indy’s favorite colors were purple and red, which are also the Transformer Deceptacon and Autobot colors.
Indy had his own style, often making bold fashion decisions. When in first and second grade, Indy was known for going to school dressed as a chef, cowboy, or a mad scientist, like his favorite cartoon character from Dexter‘s Laboratory.
As a teenager, Indiana began wearing hats. His first favorite was a Cardinals ball hat which he wore until it had to be retired. After that, he started reaching out for hats with a little more personality. He would wear every kind from a Panama, boonie, cap, Stetson, ivy, and beret. But his favorite was his Indiana Jones style fedora.
When it came to his fashion choices, he loved his black kilt, coat with tails, several leather jackets, suspenders, bowties, shiny dress shoes or biker boots, and a Mexican blanket poncho. He sometimes chose to wear several of these items at once in a very eclectic style.
Indiana loved to cook and bake. The more spices the recipe called for, the happier he would be about making it. He also was not afraid to try new foods and often tried to learn how to make them at home.
He also adored cats. Indy spoke often about his cats and how snuggly and soft they were. Cats had a relaxing effect on him and he would often talk about waking up with the cat sleeping on his chest.
Indy was polite. He would say “Yes, Sir” or “Yes, Ma’am,” and offered to help others with opening doors or carrying in groceries. He was kind to his neighbors and a good friend. Indy was witty, loved to make others laugh, and to laugh with them. He always enjoyed a good pun.
Whenever Indy would get mad, he would always come back and apologize. It was very important to him.
Indy enjoyed vintage items and cherished ones that were handed down to him, especially if they had belonged to deceased family member, whom he had never met. This gave him a sense of his own ancestry.
Indy loved music and during his middle and high school years played the piano, although he hated to practice the assignments. Instead of practicing, he wrote some of his own music. He often found that listening to music would calm him and help him relax. One of his favorite groups to listen to was Lincoln Park.
Indy is survived by his mother, Amy Lee McKinney and stepfather Mark Replogle of Springfield Missouri, His father, David Michael Robertson, and stepmother Stacy Kanagawa, along with his younger sister Nora Robertson of Nixa, Missouri, and his older sister Annie Hounnoukpe and brother-in-law Kouassi Hounnoukpe along with his two nieces Fahren and Maven Hounnoukpe of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Carl “Wink” and Mozelle McKinney of Houston, Missouri, and Donald and Cathy Robertson of Lebanon, Missouri, Harold Kanagawa MD of Nixa, Missouri, and James Wilson of Ashland, Missouri, and Claire “Ike” and Margaret Eike of Nixa, Missouri.
