Edward Everett Schaninger died at home, with his wife and children by his side on Saturday, August 31, 2019. He was born July 14, 1940 in Baltimore, MD to Vernon L. and Ruth V. (nee Robinson) Schaninger. After graduating from Parkville High School, Ed enlisted in the United States Air Force in January 1960. It was in the Air Force where he discovered his passion for aircraft maintenance. Upon his honorable discharge in October 1965, he continued his education at Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. It was during his time at PIA that he met his “young bride” Sandy. They were married on November 4, 1967.
Ed started his long, rewarding career in aircraft maintenance with TWA in April 1968 at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. Over the next 12 years, Ed was relocated to Baltimore/Washington International, Chicago O’Hare International, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International and Dulles International before his final relocation to St. Louis Lambert International in 1980. After the acquisition of TWA by American Airlines, Ed continued his career until his retirement in December 2004.
Ed enjoyed entertaining his friends & neighbors and was always a gracious host. His sense of humor was witty and he was a master at one-liners. When he told you a story, he gave every little detail. Anyone that knows him knows that his love of aircraft ran deep but the love for his family ran deeper. Being at home with his family brought him the most pleasure in life.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra L. Schaninger (nee. Ibex), his daughter, Sharon (Eric) Potts of O’Fallon, MO, two sons, Jeffrey (April) Schaninger of Maryland Heights, MO and Steven (Leslie) Schaninger of Lake St. Louis, MO, and his grandchildren, Kyle, Sarah & Natalie Potts, Mallory & Jaxson Schaninger, Zachary & Julia Liefer and AJ Java. He is also survived by his sister, Linda (Jerry) Silhan of Upperco, MD. Ed is preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements pending.
