Mary Margaret (Halverson) Steyer of Florissant, MO, passed away peacefully on
November 18, 2025, at age 80.

She was born September 24, 1945, in Austin, Minnesota to Marion and Okel Halverson.
Growing up, her family moved often, living in many towns in Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri,
Florida and Georgia.

Mary graduated from high school in Marietta, Georgia, and spent some time at the University of
Georgia before moving back to Missouri. She was working at Howard Johnson’s
restaurant in Hazelwood, MO, when she met Gary Steyer Sr.

After marrying Gary in 1971, Mary worked part-time so she could devote her efforts to
her two children, Gary Jr. and Anne Marlies. She was a room mother, Girl Scout troop
leader, and involved in the PTA.

She found her true calling and her nickname with the birth of her first grandchild. Who
affectionately called her Nonnie. Mary’s grandchildren were her world. She could be
seen driving around Florissant with a carload of grandkids and a shirt that read “World’s
Best Grandma”. She was never too busy to take her grandchild out for ice cream or lend
a sympathetic ear.

Mary was strong and selfless and a fierce defender of those she loved. She was kind,
and understanding, and a spitfire all at once. She will truly be missed.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Okel and Marion Halverson as well as her
siblings O’Dis Halverson, Chester Halverson, Winston Halverson, DeLois Parsons, Artis
Bolen, John Halverson, Ola May Halverson, and Donna Halverson.

Mary is survived by her children Gary (Kathy) Steyer Jr and Anne (David Lane)
Keathley and their father Gary Steyer Sr; beloved grandchildren: Ryan (Irene)
Desmond, Trevor (Laura) Keathley, Taylor Keathley, Trenton Keathley, Brody Keathley,
Luke Steyer, and Isabel Lane; cherished great-grandchildren Anne Desmond, Harper
Desmond, Chase Desmond, and Lily Desmond; her siblings Dale Miller, Ray Baldwin,
Danita Halverson, and David Halverson; her Sister-in-law Marlies Halverson; along with
many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Visitation will be on Friday, December 5, 2025 at Hutchens Mortuary (675 Graham Rd.
Florissant, MO 63031) from 5pm to 7pm. Followed by a Memorial Service.
