Larry Joe Black, 82, was born April 1, 1943, and resided in Barnhart, Missouri. He left this world for his eternal home in heaven on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. He spent his last day on earth with his three children by his side.
When he was younger, he loved drag racing and hanging out with his cousins and friends. Larry was a hard-working man and a “jack of all trades”. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would figure it out. He made his career as a Union Ironworker and was well respected in his field. He loved carpentry work and built many homes throughout the years, along with the homes in which he lived. He loved his family and friends and was always there for them to lend an ear or a helping hand. He raised his family to love God and believe in Jesus.
He unselfishly volunteered his time and ran his backhoe equipment on various church projects. Recognizing the importance of supporting those in need, Larry took significant steps to ensure the well-being of a family in Africa by sponsoring them when he learned of their dire situation. Larry enjoyed working on vehicles, spending time at his Pole Barn in Festus as well as spending time at his property in Florida. His summers were spent enjoying the outdoors with his family; hiking, camping, traveling to rivers, lakes, mountains, and the ocean.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Sherman William Black, his mother, Evelyn Marie (Gravesen) Black, and his sister, Sharron Friend Black.
He is survived by his three children: Paul Anthony Black, Julie Kay (Black) Chadbourne, (wife of the late Eugene Dwayne Chadbourne), and Nathan Eugene Black. Seven grandchildren: Nicole Chadbourne (Gabriel Stephenson), Philip Black (Krista Luaders), Joshua (Christina) Chadbourne, James (Alaina) Chadbourne, Vanessa Black, Stephanie Black, and Jillian Black. Seven great-grandchildren: Levi Chadbourne, Austin Black, Jori Chadbourne, Jeremiah Chadbourne, Josiah Chadbourne, Archer Chadbourne, and Chloe Stephenson
Larry’s life will be celebrated on Friday, July 18, 2025 from 5:30 – 8:00 in the evening. The memorial service will begin at 6:00 pm, with refreshments to follow. The church location is 6433 Randy Drive, Imperial, Missouri 63052.
