James Walter Woods, Jr. was born January 22, 1952 in East St. Louis, Illinois to
James W. Woods Sr. and ImoJean Woods nee Hubbard and died December 28 th , 2024
in O’Fallon, Illinois.
Jim is proceeded in death by his father, James Walter Woods, Sr, his mother,
ImoJean Woods, sister Judy Woods, sister Dianna Peterson, sister Beverly Modglin,
niece Teresa Garner; and survived by sister Frances Garner, sister Susan Woods, sister
Brenda Bequette, brother Frederick Schunk, brother Kenneth (Sharon) Schunk, brother
Robert (Denise) Modglin, and sister Peggy Woods, and many beloved nieces and
nephews.
Jim honorably served his nation in the United States Navy from December 1969
to December 1975 onboard the USS Hector with multiple tours of duty during the
Vietnam War. Upon his discharge he returned home and was employed by Stifel
Nicholas and then St. Louis School District as a textbook binder. Jim extended his love
of books into his personal life and was an avid reader. He loved live music and
collecting albums, annual chili cook-offs, and spending time with his family. Jim loved
the children of the family and always made a point to interact with them to ensure they
knew how much they were adored. Jim will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of
humor, generosity, and will be sorely missed.
In lieu of visitation, a celebration of life will be held Spring of 2025 for close family
and friends. Donations can be made in Jim’s honor to the National Kidney Foundation.
